Formed in 1976, the Sarnia/Bluewater Wrestling Club has been a proud supporter of amateur wrestling in Southwestern Ontario for almost forty years. Due to the legacy laid down by Bill McNamara, John Girard and the original coaches and athletes in Sarnia, Lambton County now has one of the strongest wrestling programs in the country.
The purpose of the Sarnia Amateur Wrestling Club is to promote the sport of Olympic-style wrestling within our community. Our goal is the total development of our athletes physically, mentally and emotionally. Our programs are designed to follow the LTAD (Long-term Athlete Development Model) of Canada Wrestling and allow participants to develop at their own pace in a highly structured, yet flexible environment. Each athlete will be treated in a respectful manner meeting the standards of sportsmanship required by the grassroots Olympic Wrestling movement as governed by Canada Wrestling.
The following is taken from the Canada Wrestling Mission Statement:
• We instill the love of wrestling in everything we do
• We go the extra distance
• We strive for continuous improvement
• We compete to win
• We embrace and accept our individual differences
• We show consideration for one another
• We are accountable for our actions
• We stand up for what we believe in
